Dear Hobie
sailors,
The Hobie 16 Worlds in Weihai,
China looks to be another big Hobie event. The official Hotel,
the Seaview Hotel is now fully booked. The China Worlds
Organising Committee has made available more hotels that can
be booked from the web site. The have also added a food
package for sailors. This will be an advantage as the sailors
do not have to find restaurants and organise their lunches and
dinners. All the hotels will have a free shuttle service or
short walk from the sailing venue and the club. Don’t forget
to book your transfers from the airport to hotel. It is the
easiest and cheapest way to travel from the airport to your
hotel.
The Hobie 16 is the only multihull
class that organises and races a separate Youth and Women
World Championships. ISAF who control the world championships
in sailing are looking at changing the Regulations regarding
world championships. We need to keep up the numbers to ensure
that multihulls keep their youth and women world
championships.
Remember to enter before the
14th July to save money. The entry fee will
increase after the 14th July. The fee will
automatically increase as the software on the entry will do
this. The server will is set at 10+GMT. So please don’t leave
this to the last minute and then get charged extra. The entry
list for the worlds will be on the web site soon. Though it is
safer to get your entries in ASAP.
Already a challenge has been issued
by a former world champion to all the sailors. Read the
challenge on the Notice Board.
Beijing hosted a press conference
in June for the Hobie 16 Worlds. If the press conference is
anything to gauge the Hobie 16 Worlds then the worlds
themselves will be absolutely spectacular. Our hosts in China
are planning to take care of all the sailors with best
hospitality. The budget they are spending on the sailors just
keeps increasing. This will be a truly spectacular world
championships.
For the international visitors that
can spend some extra holiday time in China they will not be
disappointed. Beijing is one of easiest airports to fly into
internationally. From Beijing it is a short trip (two hours by
tour bus) to the Great Wall of China. On walk on the Great
Wall is a must for any tourist. Not to mention the Forbidden
City, the home of China’s Emperor’s. The spectacular Summer
Palace are all places of historical interest and tourist
attractions. For those flying into Shanghai the home of the
2010 World Expo. So you can see the World Expo and visit one
of the most modern architectural cities in the world. For the
shoppers coming into Hong Kong’s duty free shopping centre
will not be disappointed with some of the bargains. For those
coming in via Seoul, Korea it also has great shopping and
historical palaces.
So for the sailors, the holiday
makers and shoppers this world championship has it
all.
It is with great sadness the IHCA
announced the passing of former IHCA President and Life Member
Thomas Poulsen.
Away from his sailing Thomas was
devoted to his daughter Caroline . Thomas bought Caroline to
many Hobie regattas. She played in the sand and watched the
sailing as Thomas forever worked for the Hobie sailors. All
the Hobie sailors extend to Caroline our deepest sympathy as
we also share in her loss. The Hobie world, multihull sailing
and all sailors have lost a friend who dedicated his life to
improving sailing.
The IHCA has a new Facebook page.
It is also another way to keep in contact with all your Hobie
friends. It also contains some wonderful photos of past and
present Hobie events. Links to You Tube to see some past Hobie
regattas.
Hobie Fleet 252, Fiji has extended
